He will report to RIL executive director Hital R Meswani. The group did not respond to an email sent by ET seeking comment, but people with direct knowledge of the matter said the company has informed its employees about the appointment. The group's 20,000-plus employees are divided into two parts.

While Prashara now heads HR for the hydrocarbon business, his counterpart at RIL's new-age business — retail and communications — is Sanjay Jog.

In July 2015, Prabir Jha, then the chief human resources officer of RIL, resigned and the post was taken up by Meswani, a cousin of chairman Mukesh Ambani.

A few months after Jha left, some senior executives had also quit. They were Harlina Sodhi, senior vice-president and head of employee engagement, communication, diversity, HR Academy and change management; Rajeev Ranjan, vice president of HR for Reliance Foundation; and Vikram Bector, its chief talent officer.
